Why does the app use bluetooth after set-up?

The iota tracker app uses bluetooth as a second method to communicate locations and other information.  When the iota tracker is close to the phone, it will use the phone's GPS position to save power.  Another benefit is that the iota will communicate directly with the phone instead of the home base for faster updates.  Additionally, when the iota is within bluetooth range of the phone, the iota can report more diagnostic information, which is important for keeping things running smoothly on your device.

In general, leaving bluetooth on will result in much better performance for your iota tracker, however if you would like to disable locations obtained through bluetooth, this can be accomplished in the settings menu of the app.  To disable bluetooth locations:

  1. Navigate to the main menu of the app (three horizontal lines in the top left corner of the screen)
  2. Select 'settings'
  3. Toggle off the slider next to 'Enable bluetooth locations'

Disabling bluetooth can occasionally be helpful if you find the iota tracker app has been using too much battery while in the background.
